At issue:
When a Columbia University student felt the university mishandled her allegations of rape against a fellow student, she turned her feelings into an art project—a very public one, in which she carried a mattress around campus wherever she went, including into her graduation ceremony. As a result, though the accused student had been cleared by the university disciplinary panel, he was harassed and ostracized on campus.
Outcome:
The accused hired Andrew Miltenberg to bring suit against the university for supporting the harassment by giving the student academic credit for her project. Miltenberg was able to obtain a settlement and the university publicly acknowledged the student’s difficulties.
